ProFolio Oasis Light Notebook (B5)

Where it fits in:

This is the best value I’ve found in Notebooks: It’s the B5 size that I love (a bit less cramped for writing than an A5), it lays reasonably flat when open, and the paper quality — as far as its fountain-pen friendliness — is almost exactly like Apica, which is a serious compliment.

I did a blind test of an Apica CD15 notebook against this one with a variety of pens, nib sizes, and inks (dry and wet inks; Fine, Medium, and Stub nibs) and I could not tell the difference between Profolio and Apica paper. Showthrough and bleedthrough are minimal, even with slow writing from really juicy nibs.

The only way I was able to get feathering and bleedthrough was from a Fountain Pen Revolution 14k Flex Nib (with ebonite feed) which DUMPS ink onto the paper (you can literally see each letter as a raised blob of ink) and an extremely wet ink (Octopus Barock Jade, Iroshizuku inks).

Bottom line: This is fantastic paper at a truly amazing price.
