The Pilot E95S Fountain Pen in Black is one of the great pocket fountain pens: compact enough to disappear into a jacket pocket, then long enough to feel like a full-sized writer once the cap is posted. Black resin, gold trim, and that elegant inlaid nib give it the feeling of a pen from a wood-paneled Osaka boardroom in the 1980s, or a quiet Tokyo hotel lobby where the guest ledger still matters.
The Elite design belongs to Pilot's golden 1960s pocket-pen era, with the modern E95S carrying forward the short, light, clever format that made the original famous. It is elegant because it is useful: easy to carry, easy to fill, easy to clean, and genuinely ergonomic in the hand. Plenty of pocket pens have borrowed this formula; very few have matched how naturally the Pilot Elite 95S works.
I love this pen. I own vintage Pilot Elite models going back through the early generations, and the E95S still feels like the one everyone else is trying to catch. It is easily a top-three pen for me: refined enough to feel special, practical enough for daily notes, and small enough to be with you when an idea is worth catching by hand.
Why you'll love it
- True pocket pen format: short and easy to carry capped, comfortable and full-length when posted
- 14k gold inlaid nib: classic Pilot smoothness in an elegant, low-profile shape
- Elegant black and gold design: understated, formal, and unmistakably Japanese
- Cartridge/converter convenience: simple filling, straightforward cleaning, and easy ink changes
- A modern classic: the Pilot Elite / E95S design has been emulated often, but surpassed by none
