The 5 Best Fountain Pens with Lord of the Rings Middle-Earth Vibes
Share
I recently wrote a comment on reddit in response to someone asking, "Is there a fountain pen that looks like it could fit into the Lord of the Rings universe?; something that looks like it's at home in Middle-Earth?"
And while there ARE a few Lord of the Rings-branded/licensed pens out there, they all have two problems:
1. They're cheap branding jobs, not excellent pens. In my mind, quality is one of the things that makes objects fit the "middle earth" aesthetic.
2. They don't actually look good - they're too shiny, glossy, or chintzy-looking.
So: I replied with a list of pens that I think match the aesthetic much better than some of the LoTR-branded pens that are out there. I've expanded on that list here, since I've now had more time to think about this and search for LoTR-vibe pens.
Here's my list:
Perhaps a little brass hobbit pen?
The Kaweco Brass Sport could be right at home in a cozy hobbit hole in the Shire. It's a small, durable pocket pen with that oiled-leather-and-brass vibe. The fact that it's the perfect travel pen – sturdy, and better looking the more bumps and scratches it gets – helps with the adventuring vibe.
Hongdian 6016 in wood

This one's got strong wood elf or druid vibes. Sadly, available on Amazon (though I may consider carrying Hongdian pens here one day!).
Something Elvish, in silver

Strong Elven vibes; possibly something a wise human wizard would use as a writing tool. Although the intricacy of the design could hint at origins in a dwarven metalworking shop?
Being a small, independent fountain pen shop, I hate to recommend Amazon, but you can pick up this pen here.
Magic, Crystals, etc.

This Nahvalur original plus could pass for a magical object in Lord of the Rings. It's a demonstrator (transparent body, so you can see the ink inside) with a flecked black or white finish, which gives it a magic-crystal look.
I hope that this has given you some fun ideas for pens that could fit a Lord of the Rings aesthetic. Though some of the links point to amazon, I hope you'll support Bottle and Plume as well: the fountain pen world is one of the rare niches that hasn't been decimated by large, cheapest-product-wins retailers yet, and every purchase you make here supports a future where quality and small businesses still matter.
Ok, Ok, I'll get off my soapbox...this Hobbit ale is making my head spin! Safe travels, my dear fountain pen adventurer.
